BASEBALL
To start off in the American League, My White Sox lost to Kansas City 9-7 despite an 8th inning surge that brought the score to 8-7. That drops my White Sox’s record to 61-48 on the season. Jermaine Dye hit his 26th home run in this game and Mark Buehrle pitched another horrible game. The White Sox lost the divisional lead in this game since it was played before the Twins game. The Yankees beat the Angels 8-2. Mike Mussina picced up his 14th win to go to 14-7. A-Rod hit his 24th homer of the season in this game. The Twins LOST their chance to take over the AL Central by losing to Cleveland 5-1 to remain ½ game behind the White Sox. Tampa Bay beat Detroit 9-3 behind rookie Evan Longoria’s 21st homerun. Tampa Bay at this point is 3 games ahead of Boston in the AL East. Speaking of Boston, they KILLED Oakland 12-2. John Lester got his 10th win to better his record to 10-3. Kevin Youkilis hit two homers (19,20), and newcomer Jason Bay hit his 23rd homerun. That makes Boston 2-0 after getting rid of Manny Ramirez. Not bad. Toronto beat Texas 6-4 behind AJ Burnett’s 13th win of the season. Seattle lost to Baltimore 3-1 in a battle of AL scrubs.
In the National League, The Cubs knocced off The Pirates early in the day 5-1 giving pitcher Todd Lilly his 11th win to go 11-6. The Cubs still lead the NL Central over Milwaukee by 4 games and St. Louis by 5 games. Atlanta lost to Milwaukee 4-2 behind two home runs by Prince Fielder (25). C.C. Sabathia also pitched another brilliant game to go to 5-0 as a starter for the Brewers. Philadelphia beat St. Louis 2-1. Ryan Howard hit his 31st homerun in this game. That put Philly up by a 1 ½ games over the Mets in the NL East. Washington had a late surge to end up taking Cincinnati 10-6. Florida kept on winning, this time against Colorado 5-3. Matt Holliday did hit two homers for Colorado (19,20). San Francisco beat San Diego 2-0 in a pitchers duel. Barry Zito actually out pitched Jake Peavy to piccup his 6th win to go to 6-13. LA Dodgers beat Arizona 4-2 behind Manny Ramirez’s first homerun as a Dodger.
The game of the night ended up being the Mets and Astros. The Mets dominated the entire game, but the Astros made a 9th inning comebacc. The Astros went on to win the game 5-4 in 10th inning! That officially pushed the Mets bacc to 2 games behind in the NL East!
BASKETBALL
In the Olympics, USA defeated Russia 89-68. Kobe Bryant had 19 points.
PRO WRESTLING
Saturday Night’s Main Event
1. JBL, Kane, Ted Dibiase Jr, and Cody Rhodes def. John Cena, Batista, and Cryme Tyme
2. The Great Khali def. Jimmy Wang Yang
3. Edge def. Jeff Hardy (MVP interfered)
Jenny McCarthy was there to promote the fight against Autism!
Not a good Saturday Night’s Main event in my opinion. Personally, I remember when the show used to have HUGE ratings of 10.0 and 11.0…now it is just horrible.
